Twin Update: 20 weeks

Its hard to believe that we are half way through this pregnancy! Well, technically more than halfway since I won't go full term. On one hand it seems like the time if flying by but on the other hand I am feeling huge and still have a long way to go.

20 weeks:

Cravings: cheese dip/chips, blueberry poptarts, water... I can't get enough!

What we've been up to: trying to decide on names.... and no we haven't, we decided on cribs, we're working on bedding, we are going to register this week, and me and jules and sister have hit some consignment sales so we've started stocking up on sweet little boy things.

Oh and if anyone finds these cute outfits at a reasonabel price please let me know! I am in love.

I thought I had been saved from being due in the hottest Memphis months... however pregnant with one baby and pregnant with 2 babies are clearly very different. I currently look like I'm due any day with one baby... although I have 4 months to go with 2. And this August heat is reminding me... my feet/ankles in particular... that big and pregnant and Memphis in August don't go well together.

Also, some of the coolest pregnancy experiences thus far have happened lately. I must have missed the gentle butterflies because these boys do nothing but kicks, punches and flips. I have also felt them on the outside. I was laying in bed reading last night and the boys were active. With my hand on my belly, I thought I imagined a slight kick from baby A (lower baby). Then it happened several more times. I yelled for D. He came and of course it stopped. I made him stay and sure enough he was able to feel a slight nudge from active baby A.

Ok all my momma friends out there I need your "must register for" items. What have been the best brands and most helpful items you received or purchased for your babies?

  1. I can obviously not speak for things that are helpful in specifics to twins but the things I loved were my boppy (still use it and he'll be 11 months this week! it has saved my back and shoulders!), our cloth diapers have saved us serious moolah, lots of burp cloths, swaddlers, sleep sacks, activity mats for when they hit 2-3 months (lifesavers to get things done around the house when they still aren't mobile), Aden and Anais swaddle blankets (I didn't necessarily use them for swaddling as much but A still sleeps with one at night. They're so light and breezy and great for anytime of year), 3 in 1 thermometer, the J. Jaye Cole covers for their carseats (you'll love these. Get the ones that just cover the outside of the carseat so they don't get so overheated with sheepskin under them too) and we loved the Snugga bunny rocker for a whole 6 months. I'm sure I'll think of more but that's just what I can think of that I absolutely loved and am so glad I had when I had Archie!

Oh, and for yourself register for lanolin nipple cream, lots of nursing pads and bags for your milk. You will go through disposable nursing pads like mad in the beginning until your body figures out what exactly you need to produce each day then you can go to cloth pads if you want. I've also heard Mother's Love cream is awesome too and you can grab that at Whole Foods. (I think I'm going to try that one next time)

  2. I second the Aden and Anais swaddle blankets!! They were PERFECT for my boy that sweats if it's over 40 degrees :) I LOVE our Britax B-ready & B-(something??) carseat and stroller! It's like a less expensive Citi Mini. So great and it was idiot-proof which I needed!

For you now, I highly recommend buying the Bath & Body Works Sleep - Lavender & Chamomile Body Wash & Foam Bath. It helped me relax and was pretty much the only thing that relieved my pain of which I had a lot!

Don't buy Bumbos new. They outgrow them too quick - borrow them or buy at consignment. However, I do suggest investing in good swings. Not only do they soothe but they help with inner ear development which translates into reduced ear infections and better balance.

That's my two cents! :) Oh and if you need burp cloths and bibs - I have plenty!!

  3. I liked the large thin bed pads that laid in top of the sheet (not fitted) flannel I think. Machine washable and I had about 3 (which means you might need 6) nursing babies tend to have runny diapers that get everywhere at first till they eat more solids. To me it made changing the bed quick and easy. Also the full sheet I used later when they were potty training to go on their big kid bed.
