John 1:35
The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”The best definition I have heard for "ministry" is simply to make much of Jesus.
The verse above clearly represents what ministry is all about. John wasn't patting himself on the back for all the people he had baptized or all of the good things he had said. He simply pointed out Jesus.
Now don't get me wrong there are a lot of things that encompass ministry. But pure and simply ministry is making much of Jesus. We don't have to have a seminary degree or be a missionary. We don't even have to be smart. We simply need to be surrendered and willing. Just think Jesus chose 12 ordinary men: fishermen, tax collector, etc. These men were willing to leave behind everything and follow Jesus.
In fact one of my favorite verses explains their simplicity well...
Acts 4:13
"When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus."
These men were ordinary. It wasn't anything they did or said that made them stand out. Their significance was found in Jesus alone.
