Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday Night Highlight

We had family night at church Friday night... with a basketball theme. D had TV's set up with the NCAA tournament going, we ordered pizza, and one of our rec committee members brought a basketball cookie cake... along with all the other sides and desserts we had! I love these Fridays nights with our sweet church family.

I made the bacon cheeseburger dip to go along with the pizza... but almost burned our house down in the process. I bought the already cooked bacon so I put a bunch of the slices on a paper towel on top of paper plate to warm it. Apparently I didn't realize how long I had set the microwave for b/c I got busy doing something else and smelt the most awful burning smell. The paper plate and paper towel were almost on fire! Congratulations to me. I almost burned our house down... not with a candle, not with the stove or oven... but with the microwave. Genius. Thankfully my scentsy stuff left on all night took care of the awful stench. Black Raspberry Vanilla... you are amazing!

Saturday Highlights

I woke up to the sound of thunder and rain. I smiled, rolled over, and went back to sleep. We didn't get up until almost 9. That rarely ever happens. I guess b/c it was so dark. But the extra sleep was wonderful. I got up and fixed D some cinnamon rolls... we figured out the ww points and realized that he ate my whole days worth of points in that one meal. Must be nice.

Then....

-We had lunch with mom, dad, sister and J.
-Sister and I went shopping.
-Made a much needed Starbucks run.
-Went home and people came over to hang out and watch basketball.
-Used 2 new recipes that were delicious. I'll share them tomorrow.
-Later that night we had 2 of our students stop by to hang out. Me and Madison had to humble D and Corey in Catch Phrase.

Sunday Highlight

D continued his Sexology series. I sat there thanking Jesus that he doesn't shy away from tough topics. He talked about sexual temptations... including pornography. The statistics he found were insane! One of the craziest ones was that apple, amazon, google, microsoft, and tons of other big name companies combined don't come close to making as much money each year as the porn industry alone.

We looked at 1 Cor. 6:12-20. How differently would we live our lives if we truly believed that our bodies are apart of Christ? That we are not our own? We've been bought with a price!

His points were:
1. Sexual Temptation can rule your life
- He gave an analogy about a wrestler. The more you feed the wrestler the bigger and stronger he gets. Before long he's a sumo! Just like our sexual temptations the more we feed it the bigger it gets. We must starve the sumo so we can effectively fight back. We must surrender to Christ. We must have accountability in our lives.

2. Sexual Temptation can ruin your life
-ruin relationships with the opposite sex: they become objects rather than a person created in God's image
-ruins your relationship with God: sin causes division

3. Jesus alone can fulfill our life
-all sin is caused by us not allowing Jesus to fulfill our need in that particular area

1 Corinthians 6:12-20

Avoiding Sexual Sin
12 You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything. 13 You say, “Food was made for the stomach, and the stomach for food.” (This is true, though someday God will do away with both of them.) But you can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies. 14 And God will raise us from the dead by his power, just as he raised our Lord from the dead.

15 Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never! 16 And don’t you realize that if a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes one body with her? For the Scriptures say, “The two are united into one.”[a] 17 But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.

18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
