exercise= no fun

Summer is quickly approaching. I love summer! Summer holds many wonderful things: no school, mine and daniel's birthdays, layout by the pool time, family vaca. to the beach, family vaca. to the lake, camp.... I could go on and on. I thoroughly love everything about summer except maybe the Memphis heat... that I could do without. It does make jumping in the pool much more refreshing though. Well... with summer quickly approaching that means having to get into a swimsuit is that much closer. I'll be honest... I have packed on a few pounds and I don't think it's fair to use the fact that I was in a sling for awhile a reason why I did so. I like food. I like to eat. I do NOT like to exercise. I love playing sports, but to me that's not exercise... it's just fun. Running on a treadmill= no fun. (I don't find running outside any better!) I have decided there are two kinds of people: people who are runners and those who aren't. I am in the "aren't" category. I am trying desperately to get myself in the other category though. I love Jon and Kate plus 8. I don't know if it's true or not, but I heard that she lost a lot of weight because she has begun running every morning for an hour. This blows my mind! To run 10 minutes for me is pure torture.... even while watching Jon and Kate plus 8. We leave June 1st to go to the beach so I have to be swimsuit ready by then. I don't want to be the beached whale in Destin! Ok my faithful exercising friends.....Any ideas on how to make exercising more enjoyable?

  2. YAY for it working! I've tried the "forget about exercise" plan and all that does is make my jeans too tight!

  3. Get an exercise buddy! That was some motivation for me!

  4. well... it certainly can't be Mrs. "forget about exercise" over there!

  5. This is why I love you, Julie...
Candace. Did you know that when I think about summer, I think about you? Really. If I could put a person with summer, I put it with you, my friend. You always looks so tan, so blonde, so summer-ish. Truly. With that being said...I agree with Julie. You looks good, girl. Put on that bathing suit and tan away = ).

  6. And that is why I love you, Laurin! :)

  7. To me, there's nothing quite so fun as finding a good dance workout video! It really gets you in the mood, when nothing else sounds very inviting. I refuse to do these if Eric is home though; I realize how stupid I look when trying to follow along! Hopefully I can find a REALLY good video to get me inspired this season! You can feel better about yourself when you think of me approaching swimsuit season fresh from having a baby!

  8. You at least have an excuse! And as far as the dance workout... you are talking to the #1 white girl... I would just quit for the sake of not looking ridiculous!

  9. I have a perfect solution to your problem....just take me to the beach with you. You'd look SO thin next to this fat pregnant lady! Yep, I'm def the beached whale this week...but I'm a relaxed beached whale!

I read your blog on the first day that you started it and thought that I subscribed to your feed, but just now came back to it today to find tons of new posts. I'm caught up now and definitely am subscribed now!

  11. Hi Candace!

I've recently switched over from the "hate to run" group and into the "love to run" category. Here are a few things that get me through it:

    1. PLAYLIST - there is nothing like some awesome music to pump you up and fill the time. I sadly admit, Beyonce makes me run.

    2. Think of the first mile as a warm up. You don't have to run overly fast during it. I's a warm up. I know that most long distance runners actually think of the first THREE miles as a warm up, but the first mile to me is always the hardest.

    3. Intervals: If I run at the same pace the whole time, I get so bored. I like to switch it up because it gives me something to "do" while I run. I LOVE doing sprints. It makes running at a normal pace feel relaxing. I usually run at a normal pace for one or two minutes, and then sprint for 45 seconds, repeat, etc. Plus, it's been said that intervals are the best thing for burning calories. Makes your heart work harder!

    4. Run outside if you can. The treadmill forces you to watch the minutes or mileage. If you have an outside route, you are actually moving to an end goal. I know it's different for people, but I prefer the outdoors. And the treadmill hurts my knees :)

Here are some good websites for running stuff:

    www.mapmyrun.com (route planning)
    www.coolrunning.com (Training/Tips)
    www.halhigdon.com (Training/Tips)

Well, this was long. Anyway, good luck with your running! Welcome to the blog world, by the way.

  14. Do you want to be my exercise Buddy. You could come over everyday right after school. I have a few videos, that a friend and I bought. One is a 10 minute work out with those big ball things. oh yea, I am now a follower of Melanie and Dewaynes blog about the adoption, if you want to follow it.!
Good Luck with the exercise thing.

  15. If it's Destin you're worried about, just stay close to your Momma. Although older fat does look better tan, it still doesn't look good next to long tan legs and big blue eyes. Love what your Momma gave you girl! And when you lose that, I've got some more to give!!!

  22. hey, candace! I'm a little late responding, but I wanted to say that I also love halhigdon.com. He was great for getting me into a sort of schedule with running. But I only use his stuff when I train for marathons or half marathons. Sometimes I don't want to run at all, but the best thing I've learned about exercise and running is that if you just get dressed, put on your shoes, and get out the door, the rest is not so bad. Whether or not you run for 20 minutes or an hour, at least you got out the door! As the slogan goes, JUST DO IT. Do it consistently and don't stress about how far or how fast. Consistent is key.
